Alon Altaras

Alon Altaras was born in Israel in 1960. He is a poet, author and translator, and an expert on modern Italian culture. He was awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize and the Italian Ministry of Education Prize for his translations of Italian literature into Hebrew. Hitherto, he has published four poetry books and four novels. Altaras has translated many books (including prose, poetry and non-fiction); among his notable translations are the works of Antonio Tabucchi, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Antonio Gramsci, Natalia Ginzburg and Elena Ferrante. In addition, he translated Ernest Hemingway’s famous book, “The Old Man and the Sea.”
