Why do we as humans have many health problems compared to before the industrial revolution.era? There are over 7.8 billion people on earth as of now and 8% of the current deaths in this world are related to obesity in 2017. So why have the cause of our death changes drastically from illness and old age to a premature death via overeating.
One of the aspects that contribute to obesity worldwide was the convenience of everything. People go out less because it is more convenient to order food than to walk over and eat. Or they want to go somewhere but they have a car so walking was never considered. People exercise less than optimal while eating the same amount of food. This can be one of the reasons why people are overweight.
Another aspect was the food, especially fast food. Why do people eat fast food? Because it is convenient. However, it is one of the major causes of obesity around the world and the reason was the food. The fast food restaurant’s food is highly addictive, it was because of these hyper processed food that is sabotaging our brain. There is research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition that proves that higher sugar and higher glycemic diet are very addictive. In the research they conducted they prove that food with more sugar, the kind that raises blood sugar quickly, triggers a special region in our brain called the nucleus accumbens. That region of our brain usually known for being a ground zero for conventional addiction like gambling and drug abuse. And its function? It functions as the pleasure center in our brain. When it is activated it makes us feel good and drives us to seek more, kinds of like drug addiction.
In conclusion, we need to eat less fast food and exercise more. Cook our own food ourselves because one we don’t know what they put in our food, and two it is a more healthier alternative.
