George Spiro

George Spiro was born in 1946 in Budapest. He studied Slavic languages at the university and was an editor in a publishing house, a theater manager, and a lecturer at the advanced school for acting and at the University of Budapest, where he also served as Dean. His diverse work includes tremendously popular plays (among them Chickenhead, which appeared on stage for 18 consecutive years and is in many people’s opinion the most important Hungarian play of the last decades), dozens of short stories, four novels, and many articles and essays. Spiró has been awarded 22 prizes in his native country, among them the most distinguished national award in Hungary.
